Brand new gamin nuvi 3490 going in the rubbish

Seriously the biggest waste of money ever.

i cant update the maps, its so out of date its pathetic.

Garmin have worked a bit on it and ive sent them the requested files but the service is poor.

Regret not buying a navman or ANYTHING ELSE for that matter.

Ive uninstalled and re-installed and ive tried map updater and they all crash.

Apparently i have the map update in my pc, but that's as far as i can go.

PC is a panasonic tough book, im going to see how tough soon when i smash the nuvi with the toughbook..

Its been about a month of trying things now..

Yes your right, sorry no your fault.

GE gets as far as downloading updates and comes up with an error to contact gamin if the problem continues. un intsall reinstall makes no difference.
Map updater gets as far as downloading update and crashes with a lot of pop up windows.
Garmin have got me to send them files from in the gps and "changed" some settings in their server to fix the problem.
    That didnt work.
Reinstall etc everything again has not worked and it been days since any workd from garmin other than oh we will let level two support know that didnt fix the problem.
Why cant they just batch send me what the garmin needs?
Free lifetime maps... perhaps but i wont get many updates before i die at this rate....

    Frustrating
  • It will be frustrating I'm sure. All I can say is that generally the update process goes smoothly, I've been updating Garmin's for years without any real problems, that doesn't help you I know but perhaps indicates there is light at the end of the tunnel. There will be something specific to your device, PC or account that is causing this and the Express team who are frequent contributors to this forum seem able to resolve most issues.

Until they appear I suggest you ensure Express is up to date (current version is 3.2.22) and when/if it is delete then reassociate your device from Express ... details are here http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin

Having done that rerun Express and see what happens. Ensure you're using the cable that came with your nuvi, and that you're plugged into a USB port and not through a hub. If you can, use a PC directly wired to your modem/router to rule out any wifi issues and also if you can try another PC to rule out any PC issues.

    Report back with what happens.

Installed the software on the mac.....

    Its actually downloading.

    Im blown away..

    Speechless.

    Red faced.....

Its actually interesting how 1+1=4.. this tough-book i had issues with getting ubiquity software running and i had a pc tech remote in and it took him half an hour working on it to get it going........

I think i need to send this nice fresh re-imaged pc back

    Its still down loading!

The other problem this pc had was getting adobe flash working... that was the main issue i think?

The difference was installing it off firefox rather than using chrome.... does that make sense???

    Not to me....
    ??????
