Garmin Express don't recognize my Forerunner 220 anymore

The latest version of Garmin Express is 3.2.22. I suggest you uninstall Garmin Express, restart the computer then reinstall it. If you receive message asking permission to make changes to the computer say Yes.

How do I completely uninstall Garmin Express?

The link you provided seems to be not working (HTTP Status 500).
I never had any issue with Garmin Web Updater or the Firefox Garmin plugin. It seems you're not able anymore to make quality (or at least working) software. I'm quite disappointed by the "strategy" Garmin is currently adopting

Edit: I reinstalled the software as suggested, and it's still listed as 3.2.21.0 during the installation. Is that a joke?

The latest version of Express for PC is 3.2.22. Use the Check for Updates feature with the application.

If an update is not offered then it might be having problems communicating with our servers. Check the settings on any Internet Security application and/or Firewalls. Since Garmin makes additions to a Windows Registry, failure to accept prompts to make changes on the computer during will effect its ability to properly function.

In regards to the Forerunner 220. Since this device is a mass storage device it will be recognized by the computer regardless of it being recognized by an application. Use the FAQ: Why doesn't my computer detect my device when it's in USB Mass Storage Mode?

If the computer recognizes the device but a Garmin application will not, then there is an issue with the GarminDevice.xml file. Delete the file and allow the device to recreate it. This should resolve any detection issues.

1. Connect the GPS to the computer.
2. Open your My Computer icon.
3. Open the Garmin icon.
4. Open the Garmin folder.
5. Delete the GarminDevice.xml file.
6. Disconnect the device and allow it to start up.

Connect it to the computer again and check the Garmin folder for the GarminDevice.xml file then try to detect the device with Garmin Express.

No, the link does not work for me. Here is a screenshot of the URL in Firefox (I do use the latest version of Firefox):

I re-installed Garmin Express: it recognized my Forerunner 220 correctly the first time, I was able to install the latest firmware, etc.
The following day, after rebooting the computer, when trying to launch Garmin Express, I get a Windows service message asking "Do you want the following program to allow changes to this computer?". No matter how many times I click on "Yes", Garmin Express launches only after selecting "no"

Please note I have no issues connecting the Forerunner to the computer: it appears correctly as an USB drive, and I can upload my latest activities using the old-but-working Firefox plugin method. I wouldn't waste my time with Garmin Express, but sadly, it seems to be the only way to get Firmware updates and an updated epo.bin file (satellites pre-caching)

Also worth noting: my OS, browser and Garmin Express are in French language. Maybe an issue related to the French localisation?

I was under the impression Garmin Express was slowly replacing and killing webupdater... As I got a new computer recently, I had the silly idea to think "hey, why not installing what should be the longest lasting software"

you do not need the epo.bin...just turn on your watch a couple of minutes before your activity

I know. The idea of getting that epo.bin file is indeed not to wait a couple of minutes, under the rain or in the cold, before my activity. It's a feature of the watch, indeed a key-selling point over the 210, I'm sorry that I wanted to use this feature. :p

this silly windows thingy can be stopped using your computers task manager
(could be triggered by what you do first on your computer : start Garmin Express or connect your watch)
* look in task manager for "express" and kill the process
* look in task manager for "garmin core update service" and kill the process
uncheck all the auto settings in Garmin Express
... uncheck : always keep garmin express running...
... uncheck : automatically launch...
... uncheck : automatically auto update...

I usually connect the watch before lauching GE.
I didn't mention it in my previous posts, but I immediately unchecked these silly options as soon as I installed Garmin Express.

I turned off a few options in the antivirus (Windows file and Regedit protection, not that safe to do that I know) before launching GE, it worked flawlessly. Hope that lasts!
