Updating multiple devices

We just purchased 6 Nuvi 54LM devices and plan to buy 6 more.
All are over a year out of date which I expected.
So far I have completed updating one using Garmin Express. It that took about 3 hours with several restarts from unexplained errors.

Is there a faster way to update 12 devices? I don't want to spend a week every quarter updating GPSs.

Downloading the large map update files is the lengthy part of the process. Now that you have completed one update Express will not have to download the map update files again. Each device will still take about an hour to complete an update.

That is exactly what I was worried about. I thought each map file had to be unlocked based on the serial number of the device.

Each map does have to be unlocked, but the unlock file is separate from the map files so Express will only need to generate the unlock files for your devices, then transfer them and the compiled map file to each of your nuvis. As Curt says, it won't need to download the map files again.
