I’ve used Ant Agent with my 910xt without incident for a number of years. Recently I bought a new computer and installed Garmin Express leaving Ant Agent on my old machine. I cleared all my activities from my 910xt since I wanted to start fresh and not have any issues with Garmin Express. I had loaded all my activities into Garmin Connect to date and had all my fit files saved on my computer.
Completed 5 runs last week. After Monday and Tuesday’s run, I used Garmin Express to load my activities without incident – although I noticed that the fit files did not follow the “date name” convention like Ant Agent but uses a sequential number format which was a little disappointing.
On my third run, Wednesday, I tried to upload my Activity but got a message that the Garmin servers were down or something to that effect. Thinking it was a Garmin Express problem; I uninstalled my 910xt and repaired it to Garmin Express. I got the same error message, so I assumed it was actually a server problem.
Ran Thursday and Friday and tried to load my activities again via Garmin Express. It loaded Thursday and Friday along with some “weight data” back in 1989 which I don’t understand (another issue) but it seemed to process everything – except my Wednesday run. This was the run I tried to load when the Garmin servers were down.
I tried to re-load/synch the files using Garmin Express, but it wouldn’t load anything and indicated everything was complete.
I then went to my old computer, paired my 910xt to Ant Agent and was able to upload all my runs including Wednesday.
I then went into Garmin Connect and deleted the 5 runs. I also moved all the fit files out of the directory on my new computer on the assumption that if the activities are not in Garmin Connect or on my computer, they will reload from the 910xt again. I repaired my 910xt to Garmin Express but nothing loaded.
It would appear that Garmin Express has a log file somewhere which identifies and counts the activities it has sent to Garmin Connect. I assume that this log has recorded Wednesday’s run as successfully loaded even though the transfer was unsuccessful due to the Garmin servers being down.
So my question is, how do I reload/capture my activities using Garmin Express? Does this log file exist and if so, where is it so I can edit, delete or reset?
I was very fortunate that I had kept Ant Agent on my old computer, since I was able to capture all my Fit files. But I plan to decommission this computer in the near future and will not have this option if this problem happens again.
If there is no workaround to reloading and capturing my Fit files from my device using Garmin Express, then unfortunately my only alternative will be to uninstall the program and re-install Ant Agent.
I hope someone can provide a workaround for this issue with Garmin Express since it is the program Garmin will be moving forward in the future. Ant Agent is at its end of life – but it does work. And that’s the important thing for end users.
