Can not sync Course from Edge 200 to Garmin connect

Just got my Garmin Edge 200. Read around about how to load TCX files to it (I use GPSies to load edit and save trails)

Downloaded all the Garmin express app, Installed, create my profile etc.... connected my Edge 200. Sees it. did firmware update. everything looks great. Downloaded my TCX file. Copied it into the Garmin Edge 200 new files folder. Safely disconnect Edge 200. Turned off, turned on. Went to course on the edge. Course shows. Easy and awesome!

Connect garmin edge 200 to computer. Launch garmin express. Sees edge 200. click sync now. says sync complete. launch garmin connect from link in garmin express. Go to course. No course is shown says create your first course. try sync again. no luck. Close web browser sync again, launch site no luck close. Disconnect edge from computer close every thing. reconnect, sync nothing.

I also tried creating a course on garmin connect and syncing it down to the edge. Works fine shows up on edge after I disconnect and turn it on.

Not sure why I can not sync manually loaded courses back to garmin connect

Express will not upload course files. It has to be an activity that you upload then turn that activity into a Course in Connect and send it back to the Edge. You can even just send the activity to the device and it should automatically be converted into a course. By your description you created used GPSies to generate a TCX file that you want to act as a Course. Used the NewFiles folder on the Edge to process it into a file then tried to sync it to Connect through Express. Express will only sync activity files created by the Edge during an activity. If the activity file isn't formatted correctly it will not except it. If the Edge processed the file in the NewFiles folder into a course, then you must go out and bike or hike the course and let the Edge create the proper activity file. Express will sync the activity file with Connect.

I hope I understood your process but let us know if you have any other questions.

  • I've have the same problem myself on an Edge 510.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Who in their right mind would design things this way?? Presumably this will then create two copies of the same course on my device:

    • One created originally and copied to the device in the NewFiles folder
    • One that is the result of creating a course in Garmin Connect after traversing the course as an activity, that gets synced back to my device next time I run Express or Connect Mobile.

    Just nuts.
