Please help! My forerunner 610 won't sync through Garmin Express. It simply spins with no data transfer. I have followed the FAQ steps, I have uninstalled/reinstalled Garmin Express and added the Device again..... still nothing. What can I do to get my runs synced?
Happens to me *ALL THE TIME*. It will successfully sync MAYBE once after rebooting the computer, and then it never works again until I reboot again, which I am not willing to do all the freaking time on my desktop machine (it runs a number of critical processes and virtual machines that I can't just go shutting down every day to sync my Garmin).
I just got it working after some futzing around. Here's what I suggest:
If you use Chrome or Firefox, check to see if you still have the old Garmin Communicator plugin/extensions installed. In Chrome, do "chrome://plugins" and in Firefox, click on the menu and pick "add-ons". If you still have it installed, remove it completely.
Use Windows Task Manager to kill "Express" and "ExpressTray" if they're running.
Start Garmin Express. Click the gear icon to open settings. Uncheck "Always keep Garmin Express running in the background" and "Automatically launch Garmin Express when a Garmin device is connected." Exit Garmin Express.
Wait about a minute to make sure Garmin Express has completely exited and the system tray icon is gone. Then start Garmin Express again. You'll probably notice it takes a lot longer to start, but that it actually works.
Unchecking those options causes you to lose the functionality of having Express sync when you attach your GPS, but if it's just spinning on you, it wasn't working anyway.
I think what happens is that on a prior sync, something goes wrong, and because Express stays in memory forever, it stays forever stuck until you force it to *really* exit by making the above changes. And there also seems to be some kind of conflict with the old plugin/extension.
