Please forgive if i am asking a previously resolved question. But i was struggling with the search functionality in the forums and failed to find a suitable answer.
Just recently i got out my forerunner 405 that i had for a while and started using it again. According to the device currently there is the firmware version 2.3 installed. When i googled i realized that the latest version should be 2.8.
After pairing the 405 with garmin express i check for updates and express reports that the latest version is installed on the device. A bid confused i started to look around in the garmin express log files where i found the following under C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Logs\CoreService\CoreServiceLog_[2014-11-11]21.49.39.4975...

So it does seem that garmin express does find an update. I moved on and actually found the downloaded file at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Core Update Service\SW-006-B0717-00-2.80\Forerunner405_280.rgn
Now i guess my question is: Why does garmin express not apply the update? And additionally how can i upgrade the device myself using the .rgn file?
Any hints are welcome.
