lost today's activity from both watch and computer

Hi,

here is the description of my material :
910XT
PC under win 7
garmin express with last updated version

i ran this afternoon
i launched the sync
and i don't see my new activity in garmin connect
i click on my watch activity / tansfer all
i operates during a long time (one hour i would say)
and then, my activity is not arrived on garmin connect

i check if it is still on the watch : nope :-(
i check if it is in the folder FIT-TYPE-4 folder : neither :-((((

but, what is surprising : all the dates of my recent files have been refreshed
example : an activity from last week has the same sequence number, but with current date

any idea of a place on the computer where i could find my file !!
it was a BIG run, i'm so saddddd :-(

  • This is nearly the exact same thing that happened to me.

    (using Garmin 910xt, Windows 8, Garmin Express version 3.2.21.0)

    I did my final long run this morning, followed by a short swim. Should be 2 files. Looked at them after the fact, and both files were intact on my computer.

    Get home, and Garmin autosyncs with my computer. Shows roughly 28 (!) activities to be uploaded, most of which are timestamped 11/2/14 12:57 pm or 11/2/14 12:58 pm. The two that I believe are today's workouts are timestamped 11/2/14 11:05 am and 11/2/12 12:24 pm.

    Most of the workouts dated 12:57-12:58 upload, according to Garmin Express. There are two of those 12:57-58 workouts that show "error" and the 11:05 and 12:24 workouts also show "error".

    I go back to my Garmin - both of today's workouts cannot be found on the watch.

    After searching through my computer, I go back to the Garmin and try "transfer all" - it first shows the four missing workouts as "waiting to upload", and then (after a LONG TIME), tells me that the other two 12:57-12:58 workouts have uploaded, but that today's two workouts are once again error.

    (I have screen caps of my Garmin Express screens from these different attempts at upload).


    HELP! It's REALLY important to me to get access to my long run data somehow, whether it's uploading it or simply being able to view it on the Garmin so I can transcribe.
  • There are 2 locations where Express stores files during and after syncing. Activities are stored temporarily once they are pulled from the watch in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Core Update Service\Sync\UnitID of device\Upload\FIT_TYPE_4\ This folder should technically be empty so if there are any files here you can try to manually upload them to Connect. Save the files in another location and remove them. They may come in handy if more trouble shooting is needed.

    The FAQ: Why are activity files from my ANT device not being stored on my computer once I have uploaded them to Garmin Connect using Garmin Express? provides the location on the computer where Activities are stored after a successful sync.

    Make sure the setting in Express to Erase activities from the device after a successful sync is disabled. This is under the Device menu in the Garmin Connect Account information section.

    If the files are not in either one of these locations or on the watch then I'm afraid they are not retrievable. If you frequently Swim and Run in the same day treat them as separate activities by pressing the Stop to stop the timer, then hold Lap/Reset until the countdown from 3. Doing this between activities separates them and makes it easier for Express to sync.

    I'm a bit pessimistic because I ran a search on my full hard drive yesterday and found nothing

    hello again
    one good news and one bad
    i have found the file in the 'sync' folder great :-)
    it is not a *.FIT file
    it is an unlabeled file but number and date do correspond

    nevertheless, i renamed it as *.FIT and tried to update it manually to garmin connect
    it lasts very long (2 to 3 minutes) much more than usual upload and then i get an error message

    have i done the appropriate action ?
    may my file be corrupted ?
    is there a software to control its integrity ?

    It did ok
    I finally succeeded in renaming and uploading the lost file
    thank you for having shared the intermediate buffer folder
    that was the key
