NUVI 1340 SD card not recognised by Express, but can be seen in windows explorer

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade my dad's Nuvi 1340.

On updating the maps(Western europe), Express indicates that we need more memory. We put in a brand new formatted Sandisk 8GB card, however express reports that there is still not enough space available on the card, when I try and get it to load the maps onto it.

I can see the card in Windows Explorer, so the SD connection from the SD card through the Garmin to the PC is good. I can see the card size <8GB and the rest of the disk info (formatted FAT32)

I have installed all the fw updates and express updates that are available from the tool. I have reformatted the card several times, still no joy.

I have ended up installing just the UK & Ireland for the meantime as I just can't get express to work with this card.

The Nuvi 1340 is running SW version 6.2, which Express states is up to date. (Windows Vista)
Garmin Express is Version 3.2.21.0

It seems to me that the SD card and device hardware connection is working ok, otherwise I could not read the card from my PC. But the express updater cannot read the card correctly, or realises that the Garmin unit itself won't be able to.

Any help in the next 5 hours would be awesome (due to leaving on a boat),

cheers

  • Try running Express without the card installed and only add it when Express asks you to do so. Alternatively try the cloning method, but this requires some tinkering which can cause issues if you're not sure what you're doing,
