City Navigator Europe - update 2015.30 fails to install

I've tried several times now to install the latest map update (2015.30), but the install hangs every time at 88% on the green progress bar in Garmin Express. I'm on a 60Mb cable internet connection, and I've cancelled all other non-essential software running in the background via SysInternals Process Explorer.

I've also reinstalled Garmin Express, making sure it is the latest version (3.2.21.0), and I've also deleted my Nuvi and re-associated it in the new verison of Express - but none of this makes any difference.

Anyone else having this problem?

Any ideas what to do? Do I have to use Garmin Express to download/install map updates, or is there another way?

    I am sorry that you are having trouble downloading your map update. Since it appears that you are having trouble during the downloading step, I would recommend following the instructions in the FAQ below:

    What should I do if I am having problems downloading updates in Garmin Express?

    If you are using a WiFi connection, make sure not to skip the step of using an ethernet cable to connect directly to the modem as this will solve the problem in most cases.

    Thanks, but I've already tried all of this on the FAQ including disabling my firewall and AV software. I have previously been able to successfully download and install previous map updates using earlier versions of Garmin Express with no problems at all. I am on a high speed cable connection (60Mb) with an ethernet cable connection directly to the router.

    The issue is that the map update download stage "hangs" every time at exactly 88% of the green download progress bar, so the latest version of Garmin Express never gets beyond this 88% stage of trying to download the update. All the other recent software updates downloaded and installed correctly the other day. So if Garmin Express can download these, and also download the map update up to 88%, WHY is it suddenly stopping every time at exactly 88%?

    My suspicion is that it is the latest version of the map update, Garmin Express and/or Garmin's servers which are causing some problem.

    Can you please offer another way to download and install Garmin map updates?

    Hi

    Just tried that - no luck. I currently have map version 2015.20 installed and I'm trying to update to 2015.30.

    BUT, GarminMapUpdater gives me the error message attached, which tells me I am not eleigble for the update. However, I have valid Lifetime Map Updates.

    Thanks for your suggestion, but I seem to be running out of options! :confused:

  • I take it you have a previous map to update?

    The only other thing I can suggest is you try the cloning method ... just Google for Garmin clone map update.

    Alternatively it may be there is something wrong with your Garmin account, if so the Express team will be able to help, so please come back having tried cloning.

    Yes, my Nuvi currently has City Navigator Europe NT version 2105.20 installed and thankfully, is still working happily with this version.

    I've raised a ticket with Garmin Support, so I think I'll wait to see what they suggest first. Thanks for the cloning suggestion - I'll look into that in more detail. As I've got a number of important business trips coming up over the next few days, the very last thing I want to do now is anything which causes my Nuvi to fail completely.
  • Ah, that's the problem ... there is no update for CN EU 2015.20 NT, only the NTU version, your next update is CN EU 2015.40 NT.

    I have located your device in your myGarmin account. The device you are referring to Nuvi 3590LMT does have NTU mapping. I have just finished running the map update process with your 3590 and Garmin Express. I simulated your GPS on my computer and the update process completed successfully. I went back in your account to make sure and there was a new licensing unlock code generated for Europe NTU 2015.30.

    In Express you have have indicated that the download process is stopping at 88%. This could be internet related since the files that are attempting to be download are in the 6GB plus range. At this point we would need to see the log files to determine what may be happening. I have sent you a private message on this.

    You are not alone! I too have exactly the same problem. I left the same Lifetime update running overnight and this morning it still is stuck at 98% and showing greater than three hours remaining which is the same remaining time from last night.

    This is not the first time this has happened to me and Garmin are well aware of the problem from others who have posted.

    I deleted the existing European map file from the microsd card and this time the update went through.

    Slowest and most unreliable update process for any software or hardware product I have used.
  • Most problems turn out to be a problem at the user end. I update numerous GPS regularly and the updates are reliable and fast. Good to know yours has now completed.
