How can I install new maps into Basecamp from SD card in Nuvi 55

Here goes... maybe someone can help
I've got a Nuvi 55 LM - has the latest updates from Garmin installed, has Europe maps installed - all works fine.
I'm planning a holiday/vacation in USA next year, so I log into my account at Garmin and buy the North America maps for the Nuvi (surprised they only cost £35.00).
The Nuvi had to be connected to the pc for the download, then it says - not enough disk space on the Nuvi, so I put in a 4Gb SD card and the download work ok.
Now I can see the maps on the Nuvi ok but NOT in Basecamp unless the Nuvi is plugged in too and this takes an age to appear.
So, where and how do or can I put the files on the pc so basecamp has the maps ?

You should be able to download it again only this time select 'install to PC'.

Note that while initially it may have taken a while once Basecamp has indexed the map on your nuvi it should appear quite quickly on subsequent attempts.

Thanks for that, but I don't get a 'install to pc' option from the download page.

The option is within Garmin Express. Open Garmin Express and choose "reinstall maps" and then "advanced options". In the drop down menu, choose "computer only".

I'm afraid still no luck...
Went in through Garmin Express, found my device, went to advanced options, chose computer only, but the North America maps aren't available to me just my european maps even though I think I have bought them.
Looking at the order confirmation email from Garmin it says 'download'.
The maps are on the Nuvi ok, but I want them in Basecamp to route plan.
Any more suggestions please ?

Pretty sure the OP purchased the supplemental CN NA maps in download format and thus will not be able to install them on a PC.

A solution would be to copy the map to a usb stick or sd card. Basecamp will read the map off that. As Stuart points out it may not be possible to install the map to your PC using Express.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I have copied the map from the micro sd card via my computer to a usb drive, re-run basecamp - it doesn't find the map.
Looks like I'll just have to plug in the Nuvi when planning on the pc - what was I expecting when I only paid £35 for USA maps ?

BRILLIANT !
That works on the USB stick, but not on the c: drive.
