Forerunner 310XT wont upload without re-pairing every time

Garmin Express is driving me mad! I used to be able to sync workouts from my Forerunner 310XT with no problems but over a month ago when a new version of GE auto updated on my desktop it just refuses to upload any workouts without me going through the following (this was suggested in a post I found on a google search from another exasperated user)...
- launch Garmin Express, from drop down pick 'add new device'
- GE searches and finds another Forerunner 310XT which is 'not compatible with Express' and offers me an 'ignore button' which I press
- I go to drop down again and pick 'add new device', this time it finds another Forerunner 310XT with the same serial number as the one it already lists! I click 'add device' button
- GE starts a pairing process and I need to click the button 'I want to sync to exisiting account', I then need to put in my Garmin account logon details
- Finally GE deigns to upload my workout :(

I keep checking for newer versions of GE which may fix this bug, but after many different versions there is no solution to this nightmare (I am on the latest and greatest GE v3.2.19.0
If anyone knows of any other workarounds I would love to try them out as I am on the point of ditching Garmin forever and getting something else that is easier and reliable to upload.
(BTW I have tried the upload on 3 different computers, 2 running Win7 and one running Win8.1 and so am confident it is a GE issue)
  • Same problem here. I have got a 310xt. I have to delete and reinstall garmin express every time to be able to send workouts TO my watch. The way around it usually works fine.

Please add me to the list of frustrated users. I have tried many things Have found online and still I have to do the exact same steps. Every. Single. Time. Please PM me too! Thanks

OK Actually, I just saw post #19 and followed the instructions. Will see if it will work after my next workout..fingers crosed
  • The latest version of Garmin Express 3.2.21 released as yesterday should address this very issue. Please see the FAQ: How do I update Garmin Express? update to the latest version.

  • I am pleased to report the latest release of Garmin express (3.2.21.0) has fixed this issue. It came out a few days ago and now my watch is syncing without any jumping through hoops :)

I have version 4.5. Went on a ride yesterday, had to go through the usual hassle of re-pairing my 310xt, now it says there are 61 items to sync..!? There was only 1 new activity. Should only take 3 hours.. The stuff it's syncing are activities all occuring at the same time 2358 and 2359 yesterday. I was asleep at the time and the Garmin off.. This is quite simply the most frustrating system I've ever used. Why mess with something that used to work fine and turn it into something that doesn't work? I'm so annoyed with Garmin - their products are fab, but the software diabolical. Is there anyway around this? Do we have to use Express?
  • For me the new update has solved nothing. I still have to uninstall and install Garmin Express every time I want to upload a workout to my 310xt.

I have the same problem is there a solution or just gotta deal??
  • Please remove the device from Express, choose to Remove it from Garmin Connect as well. This will not delete any activities already uploaded but it will clear the Sync menu in Connect. Use the instructions below to delete any remnants of the 310 from the computer.

    1. Delete the contents of the C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devic es\
    2. Press the Windows Key + R key together
    3. Type this exactly, %Appdata%
    4. Click OK
    5. Open the Garmin folder
    6. Open the Devices folder
    7. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

    1. Delete the contents of the LegacyProxy folder located in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\LegacyProxy folder
    2. Press the Windows Key + R key together
    3. Type this exactly, %Programdata%
    4. Click OK
    5. Open the Garmin folder
    6. Open the LegacyProxy folder
    7. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

Restart the computer then add it back again.

Do a Master Reset on the 310XT if it continues to fail

    310XT Master Reset:

I only suggest Master Resets as a last resort but you have to delete the device from Express & Connect, do the Master Reset then pair the watch with Express again.
