Garmin Express "Waiting to upload..."

The past couple of weeks I've been having an issue when Garmin Express will download data from the watch (FR 310XT), but then get stuck at "Waiting to upload..." for quite a bit of time. Usually the data will get uploaded, but sometimes it will take an hour or 2. Other times I get impatient, so I force close Garmin Express and soft reset the watch. Are there any recommendations to fix this behavior? It would be nice if the .FIT file was just saved on my computer so that I could upload it manually and analyse the file locally without having to wait forever. (Perhaps a feature request? Write files to hard drive after received from watch).

In all honesty, I really don't really mind waiting all that much, but it's a pain to have to remember to charge my watch after everything finally uploads. I went from 3 bars of battery all the way down to 0 bars in just one sync.

Thanks for the help.

Please follow these instructions to make sure Garmin Express is up to date:
• Open Garmin Express
• Click Settings in the upper-right (Gear icon)
• Click Check for Application Updates

If Garmin Express is up to date and you are still having issues, try removing your device from express, restart your computer and then pair the device with Garmin Express again. To remove the device from Garmin Express, follow the instructions in the FAQ below:

I am having the exact same problem: Garmin Express gets stuck on "Waiting to upload..." 50% of the time I use it now with my 310xt. I've already done everything that is suggested like quitting Garmin Express and restarting, rebooting Windows, and even deleting and re-adding my 310xt device.

It really seems like Garmin has taken a step backwards with Garmin Express. I never had this much trouble uploading with the old Ant Agent software. I just want to get my workouts off my watch. Is that too much to ask?

If you were previously uploading data with the ANT Agent and had started having trouble after installing Garmin Express, delete the device from Express then clean up the left over ANT Agent data. Pair the device with Express again and your uploads should resume.

1. Delete the contents of the C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devic es\
1. Press the Windows Key + R key together
2. Type this exactly, %Appdata%
3. Click OK
4. Open the Garmin folder
5. Open the Devices folder
6. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

Thanks, Curt. Unfortunately, that didn't work. Garmin Express found a few activities to upload but after running for a while it says "Error" or "Waiting to upload..." next to each one of them.

Curt, FYI, I found the log file CoreServiceLog_XXX in the C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Logs\CoreService directory and I can see in the log that it's stuck uploading files. Below is the message it keeps logging (for the past 15 minutes).

Device 3806721497 has 2 files that are 23.81% complete.

That could be an issue with the activities. There could be some corrupt data in them and connect is rejecting them. It could also be an network issue, something local is blocking Express from communicating with Connect. Disable any network security. Re-enter your Connect credentials. Click the Device menu than scroll down to the Garmin Connect Account section. Click Change account and re-enter your username and password.

Express creates the files in the C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Core Update Service/Sync/unit id of the watch/Uploads or Activity/FIT_TYPE_4/ while it tries to upload them to connect. If it doesn't get the files uploaded then it will delete them. If there is anything in this folder delete it then try to sync again.

Garmin Express must have mangled the file. When I finished my run I went through the history on my watch I was able to view the lap splits. After trying to upload to Garmin Connect with Garmin Express the lap splits now show up as 0:00. I guess that explains why Express can't upload the activity but the more concerning issue is why did Garmin Express corrupt the activity on my watch?
• I have also experienced the issue since a month or so. Now I installed Garmin Express on a fresh PC, connected to my FR 610 and it stuck again on "Waiting for upload".
On another PC, where I have had the issue before, I tried with both Garmin Express and ANT Agent. With ANT Agent I was able to download the data and then upload files manually to Garmin Connect. The upload from ANT failed. ANT tried again and again.

It seems issues with Connect are still not fixed :-(

Have you tried to manually upload the activities? The files are stored on the computer before upload to Garmin Connect. The file locations are provided in this FAQ: Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect?

Use the instructions in our FAQ How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect? to do so, only you will browse to the computer file location instead of the location on the device.

If the activities do not import, then they are corrupted and you can create a manual activity for them in Garmin Connect. Once all the activities are uploaded that can be, delete the contents of that Upload folder and clear the history on the Forerunner 610.

This is getting more than a little frustrating. I have removed my device, added it back, checked the manual files and GE still will not finish an upload. There has got to be a better and more direct way to do this.
