When my FR220 is still charging and I start Garmin Express (latest version), it won't sync with Garmin Connect. Only after the watch is at 100%, it can sync my activity.
Is this by design, or is this a bug?
It should not need to be 100% charged to sync, however it would be interesting to know at what percentage the battery is when this is happening. Also, ensure it has the latest firmware, v.3.00
The battery level has never been below 70% after runs, so somewhere between 70% and 90%. I'm running the newest firmware.
I was thinking, some laptop's have special USB ports for charging. (maybe my PC has some too..) I'm not sure but could it be that Garmin Express needs a certain type of USB port?
No, as long as Express recognizes the 220 that is not the issue, and 70% charge should be fine as well.
Have you tried a different port? What happens if you first open Garmin Express and then connect the device, any difference?
It's on a different (USB3) port now. Today, and this happiness sometimes, GE wouldn't recognise the 220 at all. 100% and it didn't recognise it either. Only after a reboot GE recognised and synced the watch at once.
I don't want to first start GE and then connect the 220, in that way some people reported problems where they lost their unsaved activity(s). I first connect the watch, make a backup of the new activity(s) and after that want to sync with GC. This should work I think, nothing special just a safety backup first ..
So you have disabled the Express Setting--> "Automatically launch when a Garmin device is connected?" When you say backup, are you just copying the activity file from the device manually or are you using software to "backup" the Garmin drive?
I recommend that you disable the above setting and the Setting--> "Always keep Garmin Express running in the background". When you close Express it will stop the Garmin.-CoreService which is the heart of Express. You will be able to connect your device, do your backup, then start Express. Express will start up fresh, detect the device, and Sync any new data. The charging percentage should not play any part in communicating with Express. My only concern is backup software claiming ownership of the Garmin drive and possibly keeping Express from recognizing it.
If you have a look at the post in my signature, you can see what I do. I have disabled automatic launching and automatic startup of GE. I use a Powershell script to backup the files with 7Zip, a simple compression program. Because the script waits for 7Zip to finish and after that starts GE, the drive should be accessible for GE. Another suspect I have is my virus scanner. I'm going to disable it to test this and report back later.
