Problems communicating with Garmin Servers

I am trying to 'Get Started' on Garmin Express and whilst it finds my devise it does appear to be able to load device information. Please can someone help
  • Well first which device do you have, what are you trying to do and where does it fail, and with what error message, if any?
  • See the points in this FAQ https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={dd8e8b20-ef1e-11e2-7dd9-000000000000} and if necessary this sticky https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?101486-Internet-connection-is-being-blocked
  • Well something is blocking your download. Are you able to try on another PC? If using wifi try cabling directly to your router/modem.

    Hi,

I've the same issue with my Forerunner 620, I get the already mentioned error message and the serial number doesn't show up. Because of that I can't setup the Wifi on the watch and cannot sync it with Garmin Connect which is both really frustrating.

The first thing I tried is following the instructions in #4, first disabling my AntiVir stuff (MS Sec Essentials) and the Firewall, then even trying the instructions in the sticky, but without success.

Then I started fresh, removed Garmin Express from my PC and reinstalled it. Hooked up the Forerunner 620, still the same error messages. But when I connected my Nuvi 2460, Garmin Express sucessfully recognized the device including the serial number! So, unless Express treats registration of different products differently, the problem is not with my computer.

I hope someone here can help me, otherwise I will return the watch since in the current stage I cannot use it fully.

Thank for any help in advance!
  • I suspect you may need to master reset your 620 ...

Thank you for your quick reply. Forgot to mention that, but I did that, too. But just to make sure, I just tried it again following the instructions here:
    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?65982-620-Useful-Links
Still got the same error in Express.

I successfully added my Forerunner to Garmin Express today! I got the idea when I was going through the other threads in this forum. Seems that some people had problems syncing activities if the fit file was corrupt. So I checked my device, but since I had done a master reset, there were no workout files. However, there is a DEVICE.FIT in the GARMIN subdirectory...

So I uploaded that file to http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/, created a "_autofix.fit" and put that file on the 620, backuped the original file and renamed the new one to DEVICE.FIT. Then I fired up Express, searched for a new device and there it was! I already synced it, configured Wifi, and am very happy! Hope this is helpful to some of you guys!

I have the Vivofit and I haven't been able to sync since Saturday. I keep getting Sorry we couldn't sync your device. Please try again. I was receiving a message yesterday that the Server was down. If this is so, how long will it be down and how long is my data stored??? Thank You.
