I have a problem with my 3597 as it was not download the map. I am using Garmin Express with the latest version on Windows 7 and I'm trying to update my map. Of course the software was able to download and install the firmware upgrade. But when I tried to get the map installed it fails with 0% downloaded at 0 kB a second. Of course I called customer support and after a long two hour conversation they figure that something is being blocked on my end. Initially there was something screwed up with my account, but they said they fixed it. I tried disabling the Windows firewall temporarily, the router firewall and calling my Internet provider. My Internet provider says he's not blocking anything, I am very suspicious because it is able to download and install the firmware and not the map. So basically it gets stuck at the download stage. I have a solid Internet connection with good enough speed. Any suggestions?
I have looked up your myGarmin account and found your 3597. The 3597 you have is a North American device. I tested the map update with a 3597 at my desk and the update completed successfully. What is strange is the situation you are describing. There were firmware updates to the device and you are able to download those and update the software but when you go to download the actual maps it freezes. This issue usually only happens for a few of reasons:
1) Garmin servers are having an issue with the North American maps (tested download is working as intended)
2) Device specific issue 3597 devices are unable to communicate with server (tested device working as intended)
3) ISP or computer related issue (possibility)
What type of connection do you have from your ISP? The reason I ask in some cases curtain ISP throttle or cap file size downloads. When Express communicates with the Garmin servers to determine the device and the files needed for the map update it then determines those files and how large the file size will be. This file size is not just the maps it is also all the additional files. The 3597 with all the files that are updated the download is roughly around 5-6 Gigs of data. Sometimes this download can be stopped or slowed greatly by the ISP. I am "not" saying this is what is happening in your case I am only saying this can happen. I would like to take a look at your Express log files to see if there is anything that might help shed some light on your issue. I will send you a private message to try and collect these logs.
