I updated my zumo 390 today with Express for Windows 3.2.17.0 on my Windows 8.1 notebook and the download for the device failed. In advanced settings I had chosen for Device+Computer to install the new City Navigator EU NTU 2015.20 on, but the download of files for the device failed.
The download for computer was successful and I can use the City Navigator EU NTU 2015.20 in BaseCamp, before start int with the zumo 390 I did update my zumo 660 successful to City Navigator Europe NT 2015.20 to zumo660 and computer.

The files in the zumo390 should only be deleted after a successful download from the Garmin servers to a computer and not before. After this zumo 390 is useless, only the worldmap and the timezone map are there. Please correct this sequence in Express.

I did solve the problem by uninstalling Express completely including the choice to remove all user files, this clears up all previous download. I did also a run with Ccleaner program on program and registry, downloaded Express again, installed it and at this moment the download for the zumo 390 is completed and the computer is busy to send the files to the zumo over the usb kabel. ETF is now 5 minutes (Estimate Time to Finish (the job)).
  • Nothing should have been deleted from the device prior to the actual "installing" to device, and only then should the previous version of mapping be removed by the process.
It sounds as though something else may have been going on at the time.

I know. But still it did go wrong and nothing else (except for Windows OS of course) was running at that time, I was working on the Mac and only used the Windows computer at that time to let Express update the zumo 390.
  • Well I have just had something remarkably similar, also with Express 3.2.17.0, and while trying to install new 2015.20 EU maps, but to my 2545LMT and my computer.

The first download had ended, it had spent a while 'building', then it was 'Installing'.

Then, for no apparent reason the computer hibernated! When started again Express was showing that there had been some errors, but the 'Show errors' button did nothing. It is now saying 'Unable to connect with Garmin Services. Please try again'. No other clues as to why ... and it has been doing that for some time now.

I checked my 2545 ... and there THERE ARE NO INSTALLED MAPS!! It is not a space problem - there is 3.16GB free in internal sorrage, and 7.39GB free on SD card. Far more free than there should be in fact!

The new map has not appeared in BaseCamp either.

Help! What should I do now?
  • Forgot to say - Garmin Core Services *is* running. On an (otherwise stable) Win 7 Pro 64bit laptop.

First reboot computer and try again, be sure to change the coomputer powersettings that it;s not going to fall asleep or in hibernation

And this is what I did (in the first post ;) ):

  • Hi Marco: I have already tried a reboot. And my power settings were 'never hibernate' ... and I was using the computer as well!

I have not tried uninstall/reinstall Express, as you said that 'clears up previous download' and I DO NOT want to have to run the whole download again for 3 hours - and I am just about to break my download limit for the month.
  • However, when I tried again after about 4 hours it seemed to restart where it left off, and wrote the new map to the GPS. Express is now downloading the second copy of the map - presumably for BaseCamp. Only another 3 hours to go - I am resigned to blowing my download limit this month.

    So, panic over.
    Thanks.
