new 54LM Not Recognized by my PC

New 54LM. When I connect it via Garmin supplied USB to my PC (Windows XP SP3), it is not recognized at all. Garmin Express does not find it. Downloaded Garmin USB driver, and this did not fix the problem.

PC recognizes other USB devices when they are connected to the same USB port.

Anyone know what might be root cause and fix?

Still no go

I tried these steps, and also tried a hard reset. No go. Also tried on my Mac. Computers completely fail to recognize the device.

Are there known problems with 54LM in being recognized as an external drive?

I am sorry for the troubles. There are no known issues with the Nuvi 54LM. Since you have tried another computer I suggest you exchange the device where it was purchases. It sounds like you have a hardware failure with the USB port on the device or USB cable.
