"...problem with our servers...try again later" with Garmin Express & Forerunner 301

I dusted off my Forerunner 301 to start working out again. I installed WebUpdater to get the USB drivers working. WebUpdater says that my Forerunner is at the latest version.

I installed Garmin Express to start using Garmin Connect. The Forerunner is recognized by Garmin Express. I click "Add Device" and "I want to sync to an existing account". After signing in with my credentials, I get this message:

We're Sorry ...
There's a problem with our servers, which means that Express is temporarily unavailable. We're working as fast as we can to get it back up and running. Please try again later.

This has occurred each of 8/17, 8/18, and 8/19/2014.

I'm running Windows 8.1.

Thanks,

Craig

I've got the same problem with my Fenix. Running Windows 8.1 as well.

I had the same issue and it turned out to be a failed activity that somehow was corrupting the History, preventing my Fenix2 from syncing. I know that the error message does not say anything like that.... but in my case the cause was this corrupted activity.
  • This is the issue I have had for the last 3 weeks. I cannot connect, have fully deleted and reinstalled numerous times. Running windows 8.1 on Microsoft surface pro.

Also tried via the website and it finds my device but just hangs and does not upload.

Garmin, please try and provide some reliable software. I feel I spend more time fixing your glitches then riding.
  • Have you tried the advice in this sticky https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?101486-Internet-connection-is-being-blocked

Most folks have no issue with Express ... where there are problems it's almost invariably a problem with the users PC.

Use the WebUpdater to make sure the 301 has the latest software. Since the Forerunner 301 hasn't been used in a while I suggest you master reset the device then create a short 30 second activity. Make sure you press and hold the LAP/Reset button until it counts backward from 3 after you stop the timer.

    How do I perform a reset on my Forerunner 305, 205, 301, 201 or 101?
