Full Map Update After Only 1 Week?

Hello All,

When I first purchased my nuvi 2797 about a week ago I plugged it into my computer and used Garmin Express to do a map update. I just plugged it in again today and it's downloading a full map update.

Does Garmin Express have the ability to do partial map updates? These full updates take ~1/2 or so and partial updates would be much faster.

I have been using Garmin for 8 months .. here is what I know..

Garmin do small map updates every 4 months... the file is 4.7 to 5.5 GB.. and NO file compression....

you were just the New owner with bad timing.... the small updates are no big deal.. you will have a hard time finding any changes... my opinion.

I plan to going to the local Library today. for the update (free wifi).. my home data plan is 5gb per month... never did map update at library... first try. but was suggested to me here a couple of months ago.

I have owned GPS's for 6 years... and the "M" brand did maps once a year.. and was 2gb.. and took hours to download.

started update at library... 1 1/2 hours... both download to Garmin 2597 and to computer hard drive... not bad... Thanks for the Suggestion.

What looks like happened is you did a map update which was fine but just happen update prior to us getting ready to release a newer map set. Express downloads map updates when ever they are released for people who have LM = Lifetime Maps. With 2015.20 being released just recently there will not be a newer map update for a few months. Like Mr. C.Hammer indicated you just happened to plug your device into the PC prior to us releasing a newer map set. This was just bad timing.
