running w8.1- uploaded Garmin express several weeks ago and have been getting a "server problem" every time i try to log in. This has been going on for several weeks.

Garmin express recognizes my 301 but not my 305?

The Forerunner 301 is not compatible right now. The developers are working to correct this in a later version of Garmin Connect Modern. The upload method remains the same in Connect Classic for now.

Er, the OP said that GE is recognizing his 301, which you say is incompatible, and not his 305, which is supposed to be compatible.

OK, good call, sorry about that. There were some Forerunner 301 that were added to Express and synced with Connect before this issue with Connect presented itself. In regards to the 305 its probably a device issue.

    • Make sure Garmin Express is up to date
    • Make sure the firmware is up to date. Use WebUpdater
    • Use the Connect Classic View to get all the activities uploaded to Connect
    • Perform a master reset on the Forerunner 305
    • Add the device to Express after the master reset

feels like i sidetracked you guys. problem 0ne is the server issue. or are you saying this is related to the device issues?

how do i get to connect classic view?
  • PATKEARNEY2

Most of the time when you get the server error message on a compatible device it is related to data on the device. Could be out of date software, slightly corrupt old activites that haven't been removed from the device or a corrupt user profile. Updating the software, and master resetting the device clears the corrupt data and has you recreate the user profile etc..

To get to the Classic view from Modern, click on the Profile icon on the left then click Switch to Garmin Classic View Temporarily. Use the Upload button in the upper right corner of classic view to upload from the 305.

  • This reset doesn't work for me (Forerunner 301 - SN 89634281). Though, I could upload activities in classic view (at least). Any other chance to get the Garmin Connect SYNC function to work with my device?

Hi, i think im having this problem with my garmin swim. When i try to pair it to GE it shows the message "Device found. Garmin Swim. Serial number: there was a problem communicating with garmin servers. try again later". What should i do?

The SWIM in your myGarmin account registered on Aug 16 checks out in our database as OK so the server message may be a local issue.

Please see the FAQ: How do I correct the Unable to connect with Garmin Services error message in Garmin Express?

OK, SWITCHING TO CLASSIC WORKED FOR my 301 - but not for the 305- very weird.

Know there are issues with the 305 and express- so decided to try the classic view on my win 7 machine- worked!! so i can upload the 305 under classic view on w7 but not on w8.1? do I need a driver update?
