I am running Windows Vista SP2 on a PC which has, until yesterday, been running Garmin Express without problem. Yesterday I opened Express but it wanted to automatically upgrade to v3.2.16.0 - which I allowed. The update downloaded fine using Google Chrome but when activated it proceeded through initialization to Installing VisualCppRedistributablex86 where it hangs and no matter what I've tried will not complete the update. I now have no Garmin Express on my PC and am unable to make the download of this new version work. Along with that problem I find that I cannot stop the installer from running on my PC with the hard disk constantly thrashing despite stopping the associated processes in Task Manager. Can somebody please help me sort this problem before I go completely mad!!!
What I would recommend is that you completely uninstall Garmin Express. How do I completely uninstall Garmin Express? Once Express has been removed try to reinstall the latest version which can be down loaded here: Garmin Express
Thanks for getting back to me. When I try to uninstall Garmin Express, using the method you describe above, it just brings up the Garmin Express install dialogue box for v3.2.16.0 and if I go down that route the whole sorry saga starts again. I am therefore in the position that, according to the list of installed programs, I have Garmin Express on my PC (but it doesn't exist as a useable program) but I cannot uninstall it because if I try I get the dialogue box to install the latest version which always stalls at the halfway point. Any other ideas?
I have done exactly as you have suggested but had to use an aftermarket piece of software called Revo to remove all installation files associated with Garmin Express because although Garmin Express appears in the list of programs to delete, Microsoft Fixit cannot see it as a program. I think this is because when I run the installation program it never completes and I have to abort and then stop the processes from running in Task Manager. I am running Windows Installer v4.5.
The problem still exists and Garmin Express will not install. I have not had any problems with previous versions of Express.
I have the same problem, and i don't know how to do!!! I've tried all the actions, but the installation never ends! it doesn't complete the installation of the "VisualCppRedistributablex86". I also have the Microsoft Installer v4.5, and i've removed all the directories of the Garmin Express
We are currently working towards a solution to this problem. It mainly seems to happen on Windows Vista computers. That being said, some of the troubleshooting that can currently be done to work around the issue is stopping the process for the vcredist_x86.exe after about 15 minutes of it sitting on installing. This will give it the time it needs to finish the install.
To end the process:
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
Click Start Task Manager
Click Processes
Select the process
Click End Process
See the picture:
The install should continue. Outside of this, you may wish to contact us by phone to see if any additional troubleshooting can be done:
