Unable to connect with Garmin serves - my experience

Just thought I'd share my experiences.

Bought a Garmin nuvi 1300T in the States back in 2011. We're heading out there again in a couple of weeks so I wanted a map update. PLugged in and went to the shop and bought the new map. MyGarmin then tells me I need Garmin Express to install the update, except every time I connect the device and try to update I get the above message.

I've tried every which way to get this darn thing to work. I've made sure the right services are installed, uninstalled and reinstalled several times, switched of (Norton) firewall and anti-virus. Nada. No joy.

I've emailed support directly and through the website. Nothing.

I rang them up today (Garmin UK). The bloke at the other end says: "Hmmm. Well, it's working at our end so it must be your PC. Try another one"!! He could give me absolutely no support whatsoever.

So I come back to the forum and do some more browsing and come across someone who suggests downloading the GarminMapUpdater.

Guess what? The update is chugging away nicely in the background as I type.

God knows what will happen when I connect up my Edge.........

Thanks Garmin.

I'm going to reply to my own thread.

Having updated the maps using GarminMapUpdater, guess what?! Yep, after a week Garmin Express can now miraculously connect up!

    Classic.......
  • I suspect then it was an issue with your ISP somewhere ... or maybe even a setting on your PC that you've changed. Either way glad it's resolved.
