trying to update Approach S1. Australian maps "Pacific 3.40"

Open the file browser on your PC and type in the "Search" window "temporary" empty all the folders u find with the name "temporary" u cant do any harm emptying them all.

Done. No luck

This is strange that you are getting that error. The error you are seeing usually has to do with a space issue. See FAQ: Why does Garmin Express suggest clearing the contents of the temporary folder during a map update?

I have since tried installing express and updating from my girlfriend's Mac and I am it is also having exactly the same problem.

Approach S1 update temp folder delete

hi guys, trying to update my approach s1 with garmin express. I am using 3.2.16.0 version of express on a windows 7 pc. I rang support a week ago but have not heard back from them. I keep getting the error "express cannot build the map, please clear the contents of the temporary folder and retry the update"

there does not seem to be a temporary folder in the device. Anyone got any ideas? Support seem to be useless.

same problem for me also; any ideas?? The s2 i have as well though is updating ok

The S1 only has a capacity of 13.7MB and the largest file on the device is the map file at 12.4MB. Take a look at the contents of the drive and if you have a file called GUPDATE.GCD delete it. Remove the S1 from Garmin Express then add it back.

The latest version of Garmin Express should handle the moving of files so the latest update can be installed but based on your description something is going on with the file management. I have not been able to duplicate it here.

Files on the device:
gmaptz.img - Time Zone map
gmapprom.img - Course map
gmapprom.gma - security file
gmapprom.unl - security file
.express -
GarminDevice.xml - inventory/information

If there are any other files on the device delete them, then remove/add the device to Express.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, the Courseview Australia download was indeed broken and has since been fixed. Would you all please attempt the update again, using Garmin Express.
