  • The Monterra's compatibility with Garmin Express has been disabled while some things are being sorted out. Did you have any other questions?

When you say you have lifetime maps is this for Garmin's CN EU map? Until the issue with express is resolved you should be able to use GarminMapUpdater for PC

At this time the Monterra is unable to be seen by neither map update program. This issue is being looked into. I have a temporary work around for this but it's a little on the long side.

    1. Plug Monterra into PC
    2. Explore the Monterra drive
    3. Explore the Garmin folder
    4. Copy the GarminDevice.xml
    5. Paste file on to External thumb drive or SD card in a SD card reader
    6. Run the Garmin Map Updater program
    7. Map Updater should see the Monterra now
    8. Follow the instructions and maps should be loaded to the computer

Once the maps have been updated on the computer you can use the program MapInstall to send the mapping to the device. See the FAQ: How do I install mapping to my device with MapInstall?

  • Any news on this?

I read a disturbing message from an user on a dutch forum, namely that today (or actually yesterday in my time zone) he was told by Garmin Support that the support of lifetime products for the Monterra has been terminated and that he would get a refund for the lifetime subscription...
However, the liftetime pages on the Garmin website still say that the Monterra is one of the compatible devices.

Is this a temporary measure given the fact that neither Express nor MapUpdater is compatible with the Monterra yet, or does this mean that Monterra owners are left out in the cold?
  • No reaction from Garmin, so I will answer this myself: the same user got a notification from Garmin Support that the latest version of Express is compatible with the Monterra. They couldn't tell him whether the lifetime update would work, so he just tried it. All went well and the Monterra received the latest map.
Apparently some Garmin Support employees are badly informed...
  • Until late yesterday the Monterra was not being seen as compatible with Garmin Express. That has been resolved with the current 3.2.18 version, as you can see in the change log that was posted earlier this morning on this forum. We are sorry for the problems this has caused; you should now be able to download the mapping to the computer for the Monterra.
