Garmin Express and FR70 Pairing

I have the same issue with an FR70. I contacted Garmin support and their reply was that the FR70 isn't compatible with GE and the problem will be resolved with further updates to GE.

I am now running GE 3.2.13.0 and the issue has not been resolved.
  • Final update is that my FR70 is still no longer compatible with GE, Garmin Europe keep closing the case (as well as munging up my case number with a different customer so it takes an age for the tech support to find any details) and want tio charge me £63 to replace a watch that is physically fully functional.
  • I have just gone through another uninstall/reinstall cycle and Express still doesn't recognise the FR70. Seeing as I first raised this compatibility issue with Garmin Europe back in February 2014, I may as well just throw the FR70 away and chalk it off as £100 down the plughole. While the FR70 was a good watch for logging indoor runs, it is pretty basic as a digital watch and certainly not worth the £100 or so I paid for it if I can only now use it as a dgigtal watch.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed and will look at other Strava-compatible brands when its time to upgrade my edge 510 and forerunner 610

I am sorry for the troubles. Based on the information I can find from the Case we created the FR70 should still be covered under warranty.

It has a pack date of Feb 26, 2014. I pretty sure Garmin Europe Warranty is 12 months.

    Serial Number: 2GD056954
    UnitID: 1340643
    Part Number: 010-00743-71
Model: FR70 Pink with Heart Rate Monitor
    Pack Date: Feb 26, 2014

Again I am sorry for the troubles. I hope Garmin Europe can resolve the issue or replace the watch under warranty for you.

  • Hi Curt,

Thanks for your concern and help.

However the information you have isn't correct. The FR70 I have is a black model and was purchased in May 2013. I have been trying to sync it to Garmin Express since 26 February 2014 though.

Also, according to the system settings, the ESN is 1273899.

Maybe that conflicting information is what is causing the problem if other FR70's are now recognised by Garmin Express but mine isn't.

    with regards

Somebody has you he tried to connect FR70 with Ant Agent which(who) apparently shall work better than Garmin Express ? Thanks and sorry fr my bad english.
  • I have just bought a FR70 to replace a FR60, and am having the same problem. Garmin Express finds my old FR60, but when I try to add the FR70, it finds it, but says 'The specified Unit ID is invalid'

I have tried to register the FR70 on My Garmin using the number on the box (which is 2GC072772) but that it won't accept it, saying 'The Serial Number entered is invalid'

    Can you help?

Should add that I have tried the advice given on the Troubleshooting Options page, as advised in earlier posts, to no avail...
