Failed, try again

Just unpacked my Monterra and spent an hour figuring out why the 64GB SD card wont work. Eventually fixed that. And now I get an error when trying to download this express requirement. This should not be this difficult!

I am running windows 8. As the set up starts the green progress bar just starts and then it says "Failed. Try Again?".

Any suggestions?
  • Currently the Monterra is not compatible with Express. It should be turned back on with a future version of Express. As far as getting Express installed, have you tried downloading from Internet Explorer and selecting Run instead of Save? If not, please try that as it will typically allow the install to go through.

  • Try downloading it directly from here since this avoids any browser issues http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe
  • I had the same experience with Windows 7 Pro x64.

It didn't take long to find a variety of solutions in these forums and others which suggests the installer has some problems. Certainly the error message "Failed, Try Again" is among the most unhelpful and annoying I've seen for a long time.

The solution which worked for me was to create a new user account on my PC and use it to install the software for all profiles. Shouldn't have to do that, but at least I don't have to junk the Garmin device.

I have the same problem. Cannot unistall/install express. I´ve been using GC for several years, but this fails as well when trying to upload trainingroutes. I get a blank screen and nothing else happens:0( I can upload by using RWGPS and STRAVA, they work perfectly:0)

Use the instructions in the last section of this FAQ article, What should I do if the computer cannot find the .msi file when updating a Garmin Software Application? to completely uninstall Express. Then, download and install the latest version from http://connect.garmin.com/en-US/start/

You can use the FAQ: How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect? to upload activities from the Edge if needed.
