Map update for Nuvi 1450

Tried searching the forums, but couldn't get any results...

I have a nuvi 1450 with lifetime maps. Tried to update maps, but was only able to choose eastern US or western US. I see from some other threads (e.g., 1490), that this is a common problem due to insufficient internal storage on older GPS units for the size-bloated maps used now. I installed a new 8GB SD card into the nuvi and tried to update maps, but was still not able to load all lower 48... could only get eastern US. This is an issue for me, since I live in Virginia, but frequently travel to Kansas, Colorado and Nevada and need the GPS in those states. When I attempt to change the state to Kansas, when I start typing "K" the only option is Kentucky. Colorado and Nevada are not options.

If you have completed the steps in the FAQ: How do I reinstall maps or change coverage using Garmin Express? I suggest you delete the Nuvi from Express then add it back again. When you reinstall the maps with the SD card inserted, Express should detect the card and install the largest compatible map, which in your case would be US & Canada to the SD card.

Why won't the map update applications recognize the SD card?
