After considerable time and effort researching which Garmin GPS unit would suit my needs and where I might purchase my chosen unit, I was surprised to find that when I recieved my unit in the post (very isolated rural) and attempted to register the same for the updates and extras I get popups to tell me that my PC operating platform is not compatable for owner/user operations on the Garmin site.
In all the time that I spent on the Garmin and supplier and reviewer web sites I was never alerted to fact that I needed to have the latest Windows platform so as to be able to connect to the downloads and map updates that I would need.
I still use XP-SP3 (yeah yeah, I know it's old), but it does exactly what I need it for and more.
I know it inside out and I have no need (never, now or ever) of any Microsoft support.
I have no use nor desire nor money nor inclination for the installation of another platform at this inconvenient time as I am leaving on a six month Web free road trip in two days.
Is there any other way around this platform restriction to get access to get what I bought with my Garmin GPS?
Thanks,
Abby.
