Installation fails on win 8.1 - Fenix 2 not compatible

Hi, I deinstalled an oldish version of Express cause it wouldnt recognise my new Fenix 2. Downloaded 3.2.9.0 and that version now fails immediately with a "Failed. Try again?". I've tried numerous reboots and complete uninstalls of the old version with REVO uninstaller. To no avail.

I've now installed Garmin Express and the USB drivers on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 vmware VM, and the installation works fine. The usb mass storage drivers work, because I can see the Fenix storage in File Explorer when mass storage mode is chosen on the device. However, setting the device in Garmin mode and starting the Garmin Express sw results in the following message:

"Found Fenix 2 with serial xxxxxxxx"

"The device is not compatible with Express"

Thats a good one. How am I supposed to do firmware upgrades, sync with Garmin Connect etc without using Express?

Garmin makes nice devices, but klunky software.

Any input would be much appreciated.

IIRC this needs a master reset of your Fenix 2.

Tried the reset (both soft via menues and hard via 15 sec hold-down of the light button) - didn't work, same error.

Just noticed you de-installed an older version. Try now deleting your Fenix from Express then reassociating it http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin
