Garmin Express doesn't want to sync file

And it keeps happening all the time randomly with some files. Today I had an bike activity lasting over 9 hours with bunch of data and now I can't get it to the Garmin Connect. Sync with Garmin Express gave weird results - I got one file which had 0.00 km and then the sync just stopped at some point (with that green bar still there). I closed Garmin Express and tried to do the manual upload with Garmin Connect but it keeps stuck at the beginning when I select "Upload all new activites". Why is Garmin software so buggy and customer support so poor?

Is there any way to get the data from the watch (Forerunner 910XT, I forgot to mention before)? Data is there, I can see all the information but can't get it to sync...

Really angry at Garmin and their ignorant behaviour, why aren't there any answers on this forum from their support?

Well SUSSAMB, I thought it was more prudent to complain before doing what Curt Suggested, but thanks for caring :)

I have now followed Curt's instructions and I think hes onto a winner.
I created a 2 sec test activity and the first time I synced it sent a whole heap of files like before only it all worked and was over quickly (rather than getting an error)
So I rebooted and created another test activity and it sent only that and a weight file. So far so good.

My case I was using Garmin Express just fine for a while and my problems started with a weight file that would not transfer. Then that went away and I was getting all these sync activities like my screen shot that started a 6, but slowly went up and up.

I did lots of uninstalling, re-installing rebooting following advice on other forums.

If if kept trying I could get my activities to upload but spending 10-15 mins to upload my run was wearing me down. (sometimes longer)
  • Good to hear it's working :)

I am having a similar issue. I just got back from a vacation in Turks and Caicos. I took two runs and used my Garmin watch (a 405CX which I haven't used in about a year). When I got home I had to update Garmin Express and repaired and synced the device. Problem is that even though I verified the runs were still on the watch before syncing they did not show up in Garmin Connect.

So I just did a test activity and synced without problems but those two runs still don't show up.

I am unsure where those runs went, how to retrieve that data and how to make sure they show up in Garmin Connect. I would try the method mentioned earlier but I am using a Mac and am unsure what the workflow is.

    Any ideas?
  • As you have a mac I suggest you open a thread explaining your problem in the Express mac forum.

Problems with Garmin 910xt syncing solved by clearing user data

    Hi-

I've been having the same problems discussed in this thread - my Garmin 910xt suddenly stopped syncing in Garmin express. I tried a number of the suggestions above and even cleared the history, but kept getting an error with a particular file that should have been deleted. What finally worked for me was to clear all the user data from my device (Note this step does not delete the history). Here's the procedure from the Garmin manual.

    1. Turn off the device.
2 While holding MODE , turn the device on.
    3 Select Yes

This seemed to do the trick and hopefully it will help others -I spent a night and a morning on this :(

One thing that is funny that someone at Garmin support might want to answer is that my device id in Garmin Express and Garmin connect are different. No idea why this should be the case, as I only ever paired one Garmin Forerunner with both.

Looking forward to resuming my workouts with my forerunner and hopefully saving the data effortlessly from now on ;)

I had found a way to fix this pretty easy, you can delete the files in the activity folder on the garmin device (or copy them to a backup folder to retry syncing later) and then delete the device from Garmin Express, but keep it in Connect to keep your current data. Then re-add the device as you did originally, and it will sync. You should also be able to move the activities that were on before back into the activity folder on the Garmin and those should then sync as well.

Unfortunately, Curt's advice does not address the problems many, if not most, of us are having. My 310XT spontaneously stopped sending data to Garmin connect about a month ago without me noticing because I haven't reviewed my data in quite a while. The watch displays the "transferring" message like it always has and then stops so I have assumed that it was working correctly. I've tried removing/reinstalling garmin express from my mac and the same for the plugin, with no luck. I've tried manually uploading to the garmin connect site, but it shows an eternal status that it is uploading and may take a minute. Curt, do you check the forums to see if your advice is helping anyone?

The instructions in this thread are from last July, if its been that long since you have inquired about a sync problem I suggest you start with the FAQ: What troubleshooting options can I try when my ANT enabled fitness device will not upload data? If you continue to have trouble, there is most likely corrupt data on the Forerunner 310XT that needs to be deleted. Remove the device from Express again to delete the corrupt data from the computer. You can perform a Master Reset on the 310XT (recommended) or you can try to find the corrupt activiy and delete it from the History menu on the watch. I suggest you start with the first activity after syncing with connect stopped. Delete the activity then pair with Express and try to sync again. You may have to remove more than one activitiy in that time frame. Once the corrupt activity is gone and a successful sync has completed I suggest you Master Reset the watch, especially if it hasn't been done in the past year.
How do I master reset my Forerunner 310XT?

With no other information that is a general suggest to resolving your issue. Getting rid of the corrupt data will resume syncing with Express. Please contact Product Support by phone if you continue to have troubles or any other questions.
