Express will not recognize my Nuvi 1350

I have downloaded the latest version of Garmin Express, intending to only update my north american maps. When i connect my nuvi to my computer it shows as a separate drive. So my Nuvi is connected properly to my computer. When i then run Garmin Express, the software can not find the device.

This appears to be a garmin software problem. I am running windows 7 professional.

Are there any fixes to this problem?
