GPSMap 76CSx, Garmin Express and map updates

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for this note--I didn't see a forum that obviously lined up with my question. I sent an e-mail regarding my problem directly to Garmin Support about a week ago but I've heard nothing in reply and I'm hoping that someone here will be able to assist.

I own a GPSMap 76CSx unit and I want to update to current North America road maps--the maps on my unit date to 2006. After checking the Garmin site, everything pertaining to a map update purchase--be it a one-time update or a lifetime update--references using Garmin Express to perform the update. So, I installed Garmin Express on my computer and plugged in the GPS via USB and while Garmin Express recognizes the unit, going so far as to pull up the serial number, a message pops up telling me that my GPS is incompatible with Garmin Express. I subsequently ran across a note on this forum that confirms that the 76CSx line of GPS units is incompatible with Garmin Express.

So, my question is, is it possible to update my unit with new maps and, if so, how do I go about doing so? Step-by-step instructions--or a link to same--would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
