In some cases depending on how the security software is setup along with User Account permissions can cause issues with what has been described in these posts. One thing you can try is forcing access to allow the Garmin Core Services to be allowed through to the internet. These steps may help correct some issues that you guys may be having.

    1. Press the Windows key+R
    2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter
    3. Locate and right-click Garmin Core Update Service
    4. Click Properties
    5. Click on Log On tab
    6. Select This account
    7. Type "Network Service" in the Account field
    8. Remove all text from both password fields
    9. Click Apply, then click OK on the next three prompts
    10. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Stop
    11. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Start

If you have tried the above steps and nothing changes, and you have logged in as an administrator account disabled security and nothing changes you may need to use a different machine to perform the map update. Some third party program or feature on your computer is blocking the Garmin Express software.

Thankyou Mike. This worked fine for my new Win7 install on a product bought today.

Thank you Mike! That did the trick ... but why was this necessary when we changed nothing on our system? :/

Anyway: Thanks for your help!! Great work!

    And for german Users:
Der Account-Name auf einem deutschen Win7 (und evtl. auch Win8) lautet "Netzwerkdienst". Also statt "Network Service" => "Netzwerkdienst".

Oooh man! I tried for one hour. Then I saw your post and wrote it in Portuguese. Thanks a lot.

Changing the login on the service to Network Service got me going as well. And now, 2 months down the road, the Garmin Express update wiped out the settings that allowed it to work. I had to come back and find this thread to remember what I did to fix it. Slightly annoyed.
  • It does say that you'll need to do this every time you update Express (unless of course you can track down the issue on your PC that's causing it)

    1. Press the Windows key+R
    2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter
    3. Locate and right-click Garmin Core Update Service
    4. Click Properties
    5. Click on Log On tab
    6. Select This account
    7. Click Browse
    8. Type Network Service
    9. Click Check Names
    10. Click OK
    11. Remove all text from both password fields
    12. Click OK
    13. Click OK again
    14. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Stop
    15. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Start
NOTE: This is not a permanent fix. These steps must be repeated if Garmin Express is updated to a newer version or re-installed.

When Express is updated the settings in Express change and so the PC will need to have these settings re-done since the security settings/username and password settings no longer match what the computer had stored. Sorry to say this will most likely need to be done when an update is released.

Mike, the instructions worked like a charm. I see I was not the only one with the issue. Nothing google, searching, and patience couldn't fix. I bet many choose to start a new thread instead of work on it.

    Thanks!!!!
  • The Express team have posted a sticky here https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?101486-Internet-connection-is-being-blocked

See if that resolves your issue, it has for many.
  • Which map? The latest CN EU NT map is 2014.40 (now only 2 updates a year), latest NTU version is 2015.10 (4 updates a year).

If Express isn't showing an update and you have lifetime updates then delete and reassociate your device with Express, see this FAQ http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin for details
