Garmin Express not playing nice with Healthy Edge Lite

Healthy Edge Lite from Tanita (makers of the BC-1000 weight scale) can't seem to find my new measurements after installing Garmin Express. Is there a fix for this? Or are we to wait for the next patch, assuming that Garmin (or Tanita) realizes the issue and decides to fix it.

Tanita would need to make sure they are pulling the data from the correct directory. Garmin Express saves the Tanita data gathered by the ANT fitness device to:

    PC - Vista,7, & 8
    C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service\Sync\UnitID for fitness device\Upload\FIT_TYPE_9

Mac - OS 10.7 and up

    Macintosh HD\Users\username\Library\Application Support\Garmin\Express\RegisteredDevices\UnitID for fitness device\PendingSyncUploads\FIT_TYPE_9

If the Tanita scale data is uploading to the Garmin Connect account, then the data is there and Tanita just needs to modify where their application looks for the data. They had to make a similar change a couple of years ago.

Got it, this by the way is the reply that I got when I emailed Tanita.

    Hello Gerardo,

We are aware of this conflict, and have been in contact with Garmin as their software is not compatible with our software. The only way to use the Healthy Edge Lite software is to uninstall Garmin Express and install the Garmin Ant Agent. Please contact me should you have any further questions.

    Thank You,

Question is, who is going to fix what and when? It seems like an easy fix but from the looks of it both Garmin and Tanita are waiting for the other to make the first move. Not cool man, not cool :(
  • Short term workaround is just to copy the file from the new location to the old folder. Healthy Lite will then update the missing entries.

The ANT agent software is no longer being updated at this time. The folder location from where the files are stored has moved and this information has been relayed already. If Tanita's software looks for the uploaded data in the old folder location then that why it's going to fail. This being said ANT agent software uploads require browser plugins and browsers are moving away from using plugins so Garmin will also transition and ANT agent will not be updated any longer.

Got it, so until Tanita updates the software the current workaround is to manually move files from the new folder to the old folder. I got that the new folder is "C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service\Sync\UnitID for fitness device\Upload\FIT_TYPE_9". What is the old folder location where the files where kept prior to Garmin Express?
  • Please see the thread https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?113266-No-readings-from-BC-10000-since-Vivofit-amp-Express-Install&p=357033#post357033 for both locations.

Garmin Express may create the file without the .fit extension. Simply add it to the file name after copy/paste it to the old folder.

Garmin Express / Tanita Healthy Edge Lite Not Cooperating

Does this mean we have to use 1 or the other - but can't use both? Are the companies working together to resolve this issue?

This is quite an old thread. I upload from my BC 1000 to Garmin Connect using my Edge 810 and upload to Tanita Healthy Edge Lite directly using Ant+.
The early versions of Garmin Express wouldn't allow this.
Just make sure "Always allow Garmin Express to run in the background" is unchecked in Settings.
Both programs still can't run at the same time, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

It would be far simpler if Garmin Express would talk to the BC 1000 directly and upload to Garmin Connect.

Thanks! that's good to know. I am installing Ant+ right and opting not to run Garmin Express in the background. I agree that there needs to be more effort between Tanita and Garmin about this issue but then again why would they, It's not like they will be making any more money out of this feature. Those who are inconvenienced by this have either found work arounds or just stopped using Healthy Edge Lit altogether. This was the last word I got from Tanita.

    Hello Gerardo,
I passed your message on and was told that we are currently working on the issue and hope to have it resolved shortly. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions or would like an update.
