After 9 years of happily using a 376C all over the world, along with Mapsource, I "upgraded" to a Zumo 665. I won't bore you with the whole story that started with a phone problem and ended up with me having to exchange my brand new unit for a refurbished unit because the 665 has been discontinued and no units were available, only to have the refurb unit have the exact same problem. The 665 has many issues and has been an extreme disappointment.
An issue I am currently having is the inability to download maps to my PC. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with a Garmin software support person the other day (Michael), who was obviously extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. After trying a great many things I was still getting the "Garmin Express has failed and must shut down, if this continues....." message every time I tried to select "advanced options" so that I could download only to the PC. As it stands, I have to have my 665, with lifetime maps, connected to the computer to be able to do any route planning with Basecamp.
Michael had no luck and finally told me that he believed it could be a registry error. I ended up purchasing a registry cleaner that says it got rid of all errors. Tried several un-installs and re-installs and I still get the same exact message. With all of the other problems I've had with the 665 this is just sort of the icing on the cake. I talked with the tech that works on our computers. The computer that Express is installed on is a newer 6 core computer with a high end graphics card and 16GB of Ram. He suggested that it could be some type of permissions problem. I will probably have to call Garmin again, but was hoping maybe someone here could offer some guidance on things to try to avoid having to do that?
I would genuinely appreciate any help or suggestions anyone could offer.
