Hi, I am a newbie with what seems like a basic FAQ question but I can't find it. I'd appreciate the help, and maybe help for suggesting an FAQ update.
I am using a basic nuvi (40LM) with the standard map and a few waypoints. In Garmin Express I get a bright red warning message saying my "internal memory is almost full" (99%) and that I should get an SD card. But there is already an SD card, and it is empty. This must happen to every new purchaser, but the only information I can find out there is about complicated transfers and new downloads that are abnormal.
I do not control where the map and waypoints are stored -- Garmin software automatically installs the maps and updates and saves locations. Actually, I do not want to manage this either, if I can help it. So it's unclear what is the normal thing that Garmin expects to do with storing standard maps on internal and SD memory.
The questions every user will wonder are:
1. Will Garmin maps and updates always fit in the internal memory?
2. If they will, then isn't the SD card unnecessary for regular use? And shouldn't the memory full message be changed to avoid giving the impression that updating the SD card is called for when internal memory is at 99%?
3. If they won't, why do users get a warning even tho the SD card is empty? Why doesn't Garmin Express usage data show both the internal memory and SD card memory?
4. Will the Garmin software find and use the SD card when necessary, and if so, how?
I appreciate any help, and so will any new user and the people managing the FAQ list. Thank you.
