910xt will not connect to Garmin Express

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help.

I have been having major dramas connecting to Garmin express today. it will not sync with my 910. I updated GE to the latest version and ended up disconnecting my watch and trying to reconnect. I can get to the "enable pairing with GE" screen on the watch (not all the time) but that is far as it goes even when i select Yes. Usually at this point i get a transferring data screen on the watch and a sync unsuccessful notification on GE. None of my latest activities have been synced since this mess started - although that is only 2.

Have tried restarts on my watch as well as a full uninstall/reinstall of GE

Thanks
  • Try deleting and reassociating your watch with Express http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin
  • Nope that doesn't seam to work. I didn't get to delete it but when I started GE this morning it just gave me the get started screen so I am assuming that it is was still deleted from a few days ago.

Can not get it to reconnect. I am not even getting the "allow paring" screen on the watch but the computer does detect it.

I have enabled data transfer and pairing on the watch although the allow pairing does seem to turn off often (is that normal)
  • have you checked it was actually deleted? Make sure you do manually delete the device then go through the complete re-pairing process.
  • I have just fully re installed garmin express and deleted the watch off it and restarted my computer

I got further then i have for a while in that I got the enable pairing screen on my watch but that was as far as it would go. Selected yes on the watch and then go a "sorry, pairing could not be completed" screen on my laptop.

wondeing if there is something wrong with my watch as i had the same issue on another computer last night. The watch seams to be fine at everything else though
  • There is nothing wrong with your device.

Same problem with my 910xt. With my 310xt it works with no problems.

This GE is really bad software, doesn't work sync workouts on mac version. On PC version simple not possible to add the device.

So bad that I don't have more words to it ....

I agree. I have a lot of problems with software and data transfer with my 910xt.

My husband has the 310xt and generally has few issues.

Two 910XTs on two different iMacs with OS X 10.9.3 and GE works very well without any problem. Also have GE in Windows 8.1 running under Parallels and that works fine too.

Chances are there are underlying issues with the PC/Mac.

I have the opposite problem. I am having the same problem with two different PCs and Ant sticks.

Am thinking that there could be something wrong with the device but have no idea where to start and dont want to reset unless i really have too

I am having identical problems as the initial poster. It appeared to work until Friday evening then it would not sync with GE. I re installed GE but no joy. I tried deleting the device from GE but it then wouldn't let me sync my 910xt. I tried completely resetting my watch and trying to sync. It generated a load of error messages and got stuck in a cycle of error messages. I left it overnight on Friday in the sync error cycle. In the morning my work outs had appeared on my connect account, even though I had reset my watch.

My ride tonight has not synced regardless of what I try. I wish id never installed it!
  • The Sync errors could be files being sent to the 910XT from Connect. In Connect Modern View Check the Sync icon on the right. If there are any items listed, take note of what they are then use the (X) to Remove them.

The files can also be manually deleted from the computer. This will help determine what items are causing the errors. In Garmin Express under the Sync Now button click More Options. This drop down menu will display what items from Connect are failing to Sync. Delete the files from the computer then click Sync again.

    PC Vista, 7, & 8 - C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service\Sync\UnitID of your device\Upload\FIT_TYPE_9
    Mac 10.7 and up - Machintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/UnitID of your device/PendingSyncDownloads

Delete the contents of the folder then try to Sync again.

Since all of you probably have a slightly different set of circumstances this may help all of you or none. Generally removing a device then adding it back to Garmin will correct most sync errors but hopefully this extra step will get you back up an running.
