Edge 500 detected by Garmin Express, not showing in Garmin Connect

Running Windows 7, Garmin Express 3.2.4.0 and Garmin Connect (Modern). Edge 500 running software v3.30 and only 8% memory used. Just updated time zone via Express
Why won't my device sync?
Everything is OK - connected to main USB, not via any hubs etc, device being detected by Garmin Express (and also seen in My Computer) and able to download updates etc via this software.
Each time I try to get ride data uploaded via Garmin Connect (Modern), says I have no device connected. When I click to connect a device, get pushed to download the Express software (needlessly....)
Beginning to get really annoyed with this. I am able to upload in Classic Mode, but this will be obsoleted, so what am I ---and countless other people meant to do to get over this buggy software?
