HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED with Garmin Map Update: Screwed Navigation and Deleted ALL my Fav

I tried to install software and map updates on Garmin Nuvi 1490 through Garmin Express. At first, I got the message, that there wasn't enough space on the device and that the 2 options are 1) insert memory card. 2) select Maps for select US Region. I went for second option, as my device doesn't have the option for inserting the memory card..

Post update I see 2 issues. 1) ALL my favorites are deleted... I wasn't told during update that this would happen.... 2) I tried out a direction from Sammamish, WA to Seattle, WA and it's taking me all the way through Lacey, WA (through I-5 S)..... It's giving distance as 116 mi and time as 2 hrs... It takes hardly 30 mins t0 get there and the distance is approx. 25 mi...

I tried to log a support help through their website, and when I entered details, it's giving html 500 error. Their phone, doesn't have an ability to take messages...

I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED with Garmin and their support system.. It seems I should have never updated my device. It's rendered it useless...
  • Well first your 1490 can take a memory card ... I have one installed in mine.

As for your post update errors. Go to Tools, Settings, Map, Map info ... what do you see there? If the new map is listed ensure it's selected and any other map there is deselected, as from the description of your routing I suspect at the moment your nuvi is just using the basemap, which is not as detailed or accurate as the City Navigator (CN) NA map.

As for favourites, I've never had a map update delete favourites on any Garmin nuvi, so I can't explain why yours were deleted. What's more and without going into detail there is no way a map update alone would result in favourites being deleted.

Garmin support is actually very good ... as you'll find out.
  • Is that map selected?

For routing issues check what routing and avoidances you have set on your nuvi.
  • Good to know, thanks for posting back. As this is resolved I'll close this thread.
