when connected to Garmin express it shows my Nuvi 1450 but no serial number and error message " there was a problem communicating with Garmin servers. please try again later"

I have been trying to update maps for 3 days and this is all I get, have removed Garmin express and reloaded usb port is ok and cord is ok.

I loaded Garmin express on another laptop and all seems to work fine, both systems are windows 7. have checked computer it is functioning properly. Am I overlooking something ( this is possible I don't use computer much)

the last time I updated maps was April and I lost all voices on gps except French Canadian. was trying to get voices back.

  • Have you tried all the steps in this FAQ http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin

In particular delete the device from Express then reassociate it.

it never gets that far only sees the device type no information or serial number and the only option is to ignore .

The "there was a problem communicating with Garmin servers. please try again later" error usually indicates communication between Garmin Express and the Garmin Servers is being blocked by something local like Internet Security or Firewall. Double check those settings on the computer and provide Garmin Express permission to connect to the Internet.
