Can't register and update Nuvi 54 via Garmin Express.

Hi,

I bought the Garmin Nuvi 54LM today. I downloaded Garmin Express as instructed on the Garmin website in order to be able to register and update the sat nav maps as well as register the lifetime map updates. When i get to the get started page i click it and it cycles but i keep getting the message 'Device Found Nuvi 54 Serial number: There was a problem communicating with the Garmin Servers. Please try again later'. I have tried turning my windows firewall off as well as my antivirus so there isn't anything blocking it. I have also tried it at different times in case the servers were down for maintenance but no change. Has anyone else had this problem and or found a way to solve it?

I'm not sure where you are in the cycle. First, without your nuvi connected, download Express. Does that download correctly?

If it does, now connect your nuvi. Does Express detect your nuvi? If not click on what looks like a green button, top left, which will scan for devices.

Come back with any errors you're getting and at what stage in the process.

There have been some issues with the servers lately, try again today and report back if you're still getting that error.

Hi, i believe this is similar to what i posted a few threads down.

device is recognised, but cannot sync with express or communicator plugin.

If you're still getting that error check your firewall or antivirus isn't blocking it.

Same problem here when trying to include my Edge500: device found, but no serial number, and the message:
"There was a problem communicating with Garmin Servers"

It's the same device I've been using for years in the old garmin connect site...

As Linux user I am ignored as the new connect site can not upload activities, but now that I asked for a windows PC, neither can I use it...
Is it possible to subscribe to this post? I'd like to know if it is answered....

Sometimes if all security programs are turned off, and you are wired in, some computers require a changing of the service:

While the error message isn't the same, sometimes this can correct the issue.
