Nuvi 2598 No map data.

Just purchased this and am now on the second device, after un-successful attempts to load maps have continued to fail. So far I have tried:-

1) Disconnecting the device from Garmin Express and re-associating it.
2) Down loaded and am using the lastest version of Express, and have tried an older version without success.
3) Re-set all the IE8 Custom level settings for Active X as per Garmen tech assist.
4) Down loaded the Garmin Communicator Plug-in and verified it was working.
5) Checked my firewall settings are not blocking access.
6) Removing Garmin Express and re-loading it.

The only thing that looks strange to me is that when I open manage my add-ons I don't see the Garmin Communicator plug in to check if its enabled. I expected to find it here, and didn't. I checked my program files and have found the new Garmin program folder, but nothing in the IE manage add-ons listing for all groups?

Any clues, or am I missing something obvious. I'm not an expert with PC's and am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Any guidance would be extremely gratefull.
  • AFAIK you don't need the plug in with Express. You've explained what you've done, perhaps you could explain where the update is failing? Also confirm which map you're trying to update?
  • When you say you check map status in settings, do you mean Settings, Maps and Vehicles, myMaps?

If nothing is shown there then it's difficult to know what's causing the issue as you appear to have covered most of the obvious. I assume you're connecting directly to a USB port and not through a usb hub, and that you're using the Garmin cable that came with your 2598?

If yes to that you could try the cloning method here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231

If that doesn't work there may be a problem with your Garmin Account, which one of the Express team should be able to check for you next time they pop in here.

Did Garmin Express prompt you to select a smaller map region or use and microSD card when you started the map update? Make sure you are connected to a USB port on the back or side of the computer avoiding any external USB hubs. Are you running a Windows XP computer? Since you state this is the second device you have had trouble with, is there another computer you could attempt the map update on?
