GE fails to sync with Edge 800

I installed GE on a laptop with Win8 and a desktop with Win7. Both installations do not start when I connect my Garmin 800 and when I start GE manually, it indicates my Edge 800 is connected, but will not sync. I get the message: "It looks like there isn't an ANT Stick connected. Make sure your ANT stick is plugged in to your computer's USB port and try again". Since I have it connected via USB and it says I am connected in the device window I shouldn't be getting such a message. Again, this is happening on both a laptop with Win8 and a desktop with Win7. I've been using Garmin Connect with Garmin communicator to upload files for years with no problem on both of these computers.

Any suggestions or solutions?

The issue with Syncing with your Connect account maybe related to the device itself. I checked its general compatibility and had no issues. Lets delete the device from Express, get the activities uploaded, then do a few things to the device and computer.

    1. Manually Import the files into your Connect Modern account using the FAQ: How do I manually upload data from USB devices to Garmin Connect?
    2. Delete activities already uploaded from the device.
    3. Make sure you have the latest version of Garmin Express installed.
    4. Verify the firmware on the Edge 500 (v3.30) is up to date using the WebUpdater.
    5. Delete the GarminDevice.xml file from the device.
    1. Connect the GPS to the computer.
    2. Open your My Computer icon.
    3. Open the Garmin icon.
    4. Open the Garmin folder.
    5. Locate the GarminDevice.xml file.
    6. RIGHT Click on it and choose DELETE.

    6. Disconnect the device from the computer and power cycle it. The Garmindevice.xml file will recreate when it starts up.
    7. Connect to computer and add/sync in Garmin Express.

  • Tried all that, again. It still doesn't work. Here is the fix I found, revert (temporarily) to Traditional Garmin Connect and upload the way it actually works, before the "upgrade."
