Neither Express nor Updater work

Greetings.

Is there a manual method for downloading and installing map updates for the nuvi 2557 LTM? Neither Express nor Updater work on my PC (Windows 7 Ultimate). In Express, the progress bar for downloading hits ~ 25% and then the whole program essentially freezes. In Updater, the download hits ~ 60% and then stops. If I leave it running, the time remaining keeps increasing until it shows something like 406,000 hours remaining. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

From what I could see, the OS upgrade worked, but the maps won't. No way, no how. I'd really like to get new maps to see if a major error near us has been corrected and to show the new developments being built that never get added to dead tree maps for years.

BTW, if the computer is rebooted, there is no longer any evidence that Map Updater has been installed. It isn't in the Start Menu, the Programs control panel doesn't list it, and the only way I've found to run it again is by installing it again (which also acts like it's a brand new program).

A map download that starts then stalls out indicates a possible issue with the Internet Service Provider. Map updates are compatible with Cable, or DSL internet connection types. What type of internet connection are you working with?

Make sure Garmin Express is up to date. See the FAQ: How do I update Garmin Express?

I have sent you a private message to try and collect the log files from Express so we can better help with your issue. I would recommend for now disabling any security software you might have running and try stopping additional 3rd party software that may be running as it could be conflicting with Express when performing the update.

The Express runs and installs using Microsoft's .NET package. Even though you are not getting an error per say you may want to try the FAQ: What should I do if I encounter a Microsoft .NET Framework error while installing or using a Garmin application?

If you are running on a wireless router try hard wiring in just to see if that makes a difference. These are some things you can try prior to us being able to look over your log files.

This is not an isolated issue.
I downloaded in an amazing 21 minutes, but Garmin updater gives errors when installing to PC or 3597LMT.
    See: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42593
Many users are upset and seem to all have the same problem.
  • v3.2.3 just released, may or may not help with your issues.
  • It was a PM not an e mail, it should appear in Notifications (top right of forum pages).
  • Then you need to look at things like your AV software and firewalls, something is blocking the download.
  • I assume your USB port doesn't go to sleep? Are you running Windows Defender ... some users have found that blocks downloads.

I have checked the emails you sent and we did get both emails from you. The data that was needed seems to have been stripped. At this time it would be faster and more efficient to contact support directly. What they can do is get you to the software team which can remote into your computer and work with the device/Express directly to see what could be causing this issue.

  • They don't 'go to sleep'. I've never had to browse anywhere and generally leave map updates to download overnight or when I'm out, and have done so for years with both MapUpdater and Express. What may be happening is that your PC goes to sleep and/or switches off things like USB ports etc.
