Garmin Edge 500 not recognized in WebUpdater/ Express

Hi

Firstly, I know there are other threads about this, but no solutions that worked for me.
I have the Garmin Edge 500, and can only connect via "Mass storage" mode (no problems here). So at least I have access to my files etc.

But Web-updater and/or Express etc will not find my Device.
Now to update my device, I have to use either platform (above), as there is no 'stand-alone' software update available for download, as far as I know...?

I have two Edges...one works, one doesn't. Have copied the files from one to the other to check if this changes anything. It doesn't.

I am on PC, Win 7 64bit.

Any solutions out there I haven't seen?

    It could be the GarminDevice.xml file on your device is corrupted. Connect the device and open the Garmin folder. Locate the GarminDevice.xml file and delete it. Unplug the Edge and turn it on. Let the device load to the main menu and then plug the Edge back in. Try Express or WebUpdater again to see if this works.

    If the above didn't work the next thing is to make sure you upload all your data because you will need to perform a Master Reset the device. To perform a Master Reset on the the Edge 500 see the FAQ : How do I master reset my Edge 500?
