Servers not available - when trying to add replacement Vivofit

I got a replacement Vivofit and I was able to pair it via my iPhone and now it shows in Garmin Connect.
I launched Garmin Express but the Vivofit does not show (only my Edge 800 shows).
I picked "add new device" and the Vivofit is found. Then it puts up the "Tell me about yourself" personal stats and asks for my existing Garmin Connect credentials.
Then I get the "We're sorry. There's a problem with our servers " message. From other posts in this forum I think that the issue may be something local rather than at the Express servers.

Can I add the Vivofit to Garmin Express?
  • Make sure the previous Vivofit has been removed from Express and Garmin connect before adding your replacement device. At this time Connect can only have 1 Vivofit in an account at one time. If the previous device is still in the account it could cause the error you are experiencing.
