I'm running windows 8.1....incidentally it works perfectly on my wife's laptop computer running windows 7

I installed win 7 so that I could test Garmin Express in that OS and everything works perfectly in Windows 7.....so it turns out that Windows 8.1 Pro With Media Center is incompatible (at least on my system) with Garmin Express version 3.1.9.0
  • I have a similar problem with a Garmin 800 with Win 8. The device shows it's connected in GE, but says it can't sync because it doesn't detect an ANT+ stick, which shouldn't be needed since it's connected via USB. I have a desktop running Win 7, but am traveling and won't be able to try it on tha OS until I return.

Just gonna say Garmin and Windows 8 don't seem to be Compatible

I had trouble last night when I tried to upload my vivofit data, (Windows 8.1 Pro, Garmin Express version 3.1.9.0) in the end I cured it by deleting the vivofit from my Connect account and re-installing it.

I have looked over the log information you have submitted and I see that there is an error in the log data. The line "Message = "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:13081". This information is the IP loopback address. If this is showing up in the log then the information is being blocked by something. In some cases this is a Proxy server, security firewall services, or some other 3rd party program on your machine.

This issue is difficult to trouble shoot because no 2 computers run the same software most of the time. I would verify any proxy settings you might have. Normally these settings should just be set to "Automatically detect settings". To check your settings see Microsoft proxy instructions : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-internet-explorer-proxy-server-settings#1TC=windows-7
Try disabling any security software you may be running temporarily. The other thing you can try is closing down any applications that don't need to be running at that moment to see if one of the applications is conflicting with Express.

    Mike,

Thanks for looking over my log file. I suspected just what you mentioned, so I did a clean boot....disabled my security software and had minimal stuff running and tried it with the same result. So if it's some sort of third party software interfering with my connection it's one that is built into Windows 8. Oh, so I also tried turning off windows firewall and allowing all connections to any computer by all programs on all ports. Risky to say the least! Still no joy.

I am thinking it has something to do with my internet settings. I don't have a proxy set up.....at least I don't think I do.....my settings in internet explorer are set up to "Automatically detect settings". Sometime in the past I do recall having a problem with accessing the internet using Internet Explorer and being warned something about my proxy setup. I thought HUH? What proxy setup? I am directly connected. But I think this could be related.
