Garmin 310xt issues

I have a Garmin 310XT. For 2-3 weeks I have been unable to download activities to Garmin Connect. I haven't heard anything from Garmin, but I infer from other statements that changing to Garmin Express may be a good idea. I therefore tried to install this. Eventually the new software starts looking for devices and finds my 310XT. It then does ask me to log in, but says something about servers not working and Express being temporarily unavailable. I can't see anything about this on Garmin's website.

Is this a problem for just me, or is it a wider problem?
  • There could be a couple of different reasons for this message. Since you were having trouble prior to Garmin Express the issue could be a device issue or corrupt data on the device. What is the software version of your watch?

    To check the version:

    • Power on the Forerunner 310XT
    • Press Mode
    • Go to Settings and press Enter
    • Go to About Forerunner and press Enter

The software version is displayed here and 4.50 is the latest as of today.

If the software version is 0.0 contact Support by phone at 800.800.1020 M-Th 8am-6pm and Fri 8am-5pm CST. This issue can be corrected.

If you are running 4.50 and the data is not terribly sensitive I suggest you master reset your device, create a new activity on the watch, and sync with Garmin Express to your Connect account?

I have had a similar issue trying to use Express with my Garmin Forerunner 10. I have downloaded to software fine, updated the firmware on the watch, and it has worked fine on the old version of Garmin Connect. But when it gets to the point of searching for my device, it says "Device Found", then takes ages before saying, "there was a problem with the Garmin Sservers - try again later". I have tried this many times over the past 2 or 3 weeks and it's always the same.

    Any ideas?

I am having the same message given to me when I try to connect to Express for my Garmin 310XT. Everything is connecting properly however i get the "Garmin Server" issue. Please advise when this will be corrected. I have spent a lot of money on a new garmin to be having issues like this. Please advise.

Curt - Thanks for your reply. I have version 4.50 of the software. I also have quite a lot of data which I would rather not lose, including from yesterday's London Marathon.

What would you suggest? - Steve
  • The issue could still be that the device is showing software 0.0 firmware. On the unit itself it may display software version 4.5 the problem is when the device communicates with the computer it creates a file which is named "GarminDevice.xml". This file is what the Garmin servers and Garmin applications communicate with to determine what type of device you own and the makeup of that device. The issue is that all though the device may have the latest firmware it may be creating a corrupt GarminDevice.xml file or a file that is reporting a bad firmware version 0.0.

In some cases where the device has connected to Express and is failing you can see the how the GarminDevice.xml file is reporting the firmware version. If the unit managed to be added to Express you can open Express and click on the "Device" option at the top of Express and under "Info" it will display what firmware the device is reporting.

In the case where you are unable to Pair the device in Express the device may be up to date but it most likely is having the 0.0 firmware issue when creating this file. Since the unit is unable to create the file correctly it is unable to be added to Express. The steps the Curt provided to perform a Master Reset should correct this issue as he indicated.

Mike - Thanks, but as I understand it a Master reset loses all the data on the device, which I don't want. What is the best way to download the old data?

I am really puzzled why Garmin Connect no longer works. Could you please explain that too? - Steve

    servers down?

Trying to connect, and I get this message: "Express is temporarily unavailable. We're working as fast as we can to get it back up and running. Please try again later."

Anyone else getting this? I got this message yesterday and today.

    thanks
  • Working for me at the moment

I have the same issue and is pretty fed up now.
Had the same servers down issue untill just now. Hard reset seem to have helped even tho 310xt is only 2 weeks old.
My uploads to ant doesn't work properly. It did until yesterday. I haven't changed anything so, have no idea why it would just stop. It uploaded the workout about an hour after I left the watch on where before, it will do it straight away when I'm within distance from the ant usb.

Edit: OK, with express now working it's uploading without problems but, my ant agent is not working. It's doesn't see the ant stick even tho express does???
At least I can upload :)
  • I've owned Garmins for many years, and never once encountered a server or download issue. What exactly are you trying to do?
