Still confused about maps and microSD cards

I have a nuvi 1350T for which I recently purchased lifetime map updates. When installing updated maps with GarminExpress I was advised there was not enough space to install the full CN North America NT 2014.40 so installed the Lower 49 States for now. I have read elsewhere in this forum that adding an SD card does not enable me to load the full package per se, but do I understand correctly that additional maps can be added to a microSD card? Can that be done also using GarminExpress to do the download directly to the card in the device or do I have to do that with the computer and then insert the card into the nuvi? Once the card with maps is in the device, do I select the maps on the card via Tools / Settings / Map / Info?

The internal storage on the nuvi is enough for the intial download of maps but you won't have enough storage for future upgrades as the maps get more detail and need extra space. Put an 8 GB microSD card in your unit and connect it to Garmin Express and it will then download all of NA will no issues.

If the internal space on the device does not have the capacity to handle the map update Express will indicate this and prompt you with the option to add a SD/MicroSD card. Once the card is added Express will proceed with the map update adding the maps to the card. If you run the map update and don't have a SD card Express will prompt you to select a small region of the mapping. If you select a smaller region proceed with the install and later do add a SD card the region you select can be changed at any time.

To reinstall mapping or change region please see the following FAQ:
How do I reinstall maps or change coverage using Garmin Express?
